Following the service, please join the family for a dinner at the Homedale Basque Center. Services will be held Friday, August 5, 2016, at the Homedale Middle School Gym at 11:00 AM, followed by a graveside service at the Homedale-Marsing Cemetery. Donations will be used to honor Mike in the community. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Mike Matteson Memorial Fund at US Bank. He is survived by his wife, Sheila sons, Lane and Lawsen mother, Wanda sisters, Kim (Tim) Mackenzie and Lori (Jeff) Craney his nieces, Alicia (Josh) Bruce, Mikal (Shaun) Lequerica, Mattie Craney and nephew, Jordan (Katie) Craney. Mike was preceded in death by his father Frank, and infant son Brandon. But, more than anything, he loved his family and friends He looked forward all week to Friday nights when he could watch his sons play. Every summer he followed the family tradition of traveling to Warm Lake with family and friends. Mike enjoyed hanging out in his hot tub, casually watching the slow and steady flow of his beloved Snake River. He also served as president of the Homedale Chamber of Commerce and was a very proud supporter of the Trojan Booster club. Mike was an active member of the Owyhee County Rodeo Board from 1987 through 2014. Schools, 4-H clubs, church organizations and any other community activities knew they could depend on the support of Mike and Owyhee Motor Sales. Mike generously supported business activities, which benefited the citizens of Homedale and the surrounding Owyhee County communities. Like his father, he was very active in promoting the Homedale and Owyhee County community. Saying Mike was actively involved in his community would be an understatement. He spent his life coaching, hunting, fishing, waterskiing and supporting his boys in all their pursuits. Their activities became his life’s work and recreation. It was a perfect place for him and Sheila to settle and start their family. Mike spent many of his childhood days traversing the banks of the Snake River on Papa’s place. Together they built their home on his Grandfather’s place overlooking the Snake River. On September 12, 1987, Mike married high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Sheila Seime. His successful operation of Owyhee Motors Sales led to the purchase of Owyhee Auto Supply. Mike returned to Homedale in 1986 to help run the family business following his father’s passing. He proudly followed his sisters to Idaho State University where he majored in engineering. Mike quarterbacked the “Trojans” to a State Championship in 1982 before graduating in 1983 with High Honors. He was an exemplary athlete participating in football, basketball, and baseball. The family lived and conducted a very successful business in Homedale, Idaho: Owyhee Motor Sales Inc. He was the little brother to 2 sisters- Lori and Kim. Mike was born in Caldwell, Idaho on January 6, 1965, to proud parents, Frank and Wanda Matteson.
